it's for you

It's all about pretend play, and using your imagination at our house right now. We have tea party picnics set up on the cute little kids table Grandma Ann got us for Christmas, with plates full of pretend french fries, cucumbers, cupcakes, grapes, pizza and mashed potatoes with gravy (which Zachary is convinced is actually ice cream with chocolate sauce. I like that better anyway!) At the last picnic, Wolverine, Captain America, Elara's Baby Doll, and both Elektra and Cobbler were invited. Then Grandma Ann called, so we video conferenced her in to the tea party.

Yesterday we pretended all of his stuffed animals were injured, and we were doctors at the veterinary office. We sent them in for x-rays, took blood pressure readings, bandaged their ears, gave them shots and then told them they had to rest on the couch until they felt better. Only ranger was really sick, he was "dying of the deadness." Luckily, he was already at the vet's office, so we gave him CPR, and he was fine after that. Whew! that was a close one!

Elara is into making "phone calls" right now, and Zachary is happy to play along. So they both hold phones up to their ears, making ringing noises. Zachary asks questions, and Elara mumbles nonsense with an occasional recognizable word interjected in for good measure. Usually "boom." Besides Momma, that is probably her most commonly uttered word. Although lately cheese "chiz" and apple "ahhpull" seem to be making a go for first place.

It's so wonderful to see the two of them playing together. They're still figuring out how to play without one of them ending up in tears, but there are nice stretches of calm happy playing, allowing me the free time to (gasp!) write a blog post!
