side of awesome

I love taking pictures of my little ones, but because I'm usually home with them by myself, I'm also usually behind the camera. It was fun to have Auntie Kitty around to get creative, and sneak a few shots of me and my babies.

I just want to play!

Mother...why must you persist with this picture taking?? I need a steady diet of playtime.

Heaven forbid I interrupt playtime for something as inane as picture taking, or eating a meal. Z would prefer all his meals be eaten on the move. Smoothie and munchie mug mix, please and thank you. He doesn't usually last through to the end of a two hour movie. Somewhere around the 45 minute mark he ends up back in the playroom playing with his dragons or his cars, or flying swimmy animals around the first floor. I love the days we have karate--because otherwise I have to find my own way to wear him out!

Balance of Power

What is an auntie to do? Little dude wants to play play play, and little lady wants to cuddle...You do both of course...you just never get to sleep again! (hmmm...sounds a little like being a mom!)

I'll Lap You

I really really really hope that Zach and Elara always get along this well. The doting big brother, the little sister who thinks her big brother is the funniest person ever...it just makes me so happy. Z helps with diaper changes, and brings her toys to play with, and never fails to let me know when she's "fuzzing." Elara follows Z with her eyes whenever he's in the room, and laughs hysterically at his antics. I think about the awesome relationship I have with my brothers and sisters, and the wonderful relationship between Christine and Paul, and I see Elara and Zachary developing and growing towards that. I'm sure there will be plenty of bumps along the way (ahem, teenage years..) but they are already building a great foundation.

A little for you. A lot for me.

Yogurt is certainly one Z's favorite foods. He's always telling me that is what he wants for breakfast/lunch/dinner. "No Momma, just yogurt." But he was more than willing to share a few bites with his best friend Elektra. She definitely had yogurt in her whiskers after this meal, and needed a refresher trip to the "spa" in my laundry room.

Daddy Thinks I'm Purrfect

She's slowly, but surely, getting her daddy wrapped around her little finger. It wasn't easy going though. The last few months, she has done nothing but scream her face off every time Paul held her. She's warming up though, and in the process is melting her Daddy's heart. When he comes home from work, he talks to her, and her face brightens up, and then breaks out into a big grin. She happily gurgles in his arms, and chews on his fingers. Until she is done. And then you had better get her Momma back. NOW.

Soft Friends

I've never had a three year old son before, so this is still a little new to me. I was really expecting Zachary to pick a favorite lovey somewhere along the line. A lot of kids have a favorite toy, stuffed animal, doll, blanket... something that they won't leave the house without, won't go to bed without, and can't possibly bear to see go through the washing machine. Zachary however, is an equal opportunity lover. He spends time with all of his "friends." He always makes sure he has one (or three) of his friends along on his adventures. He'll occasionally pick favorites and insist on the same stuffed animal for a few nights in a row, but then he picks a new lovey to obsess over. He doesn't have one animal he can't live without...he can't live without all of them! Of course--he still gets upset whenever I put one of them through the wash!

Creature Comforts

I probably should have done like some of my friends, and posted something I am thankful for every day in November. But with all the things I have to be thankful for, like my beautiful children, loving husband and wonderful house, I just don't have the time! I am so thankful to be happy, and healthy, and so blessed to be closer to family. Last Thanksgiving we had a long, long drive and a lot of packing to do. This year, we are still cuddled up in our jammies, having waffles for breakfast, and in a little while, we'll get dressed and leave ourselves an hour to get to Auntie Millie's house.

I was helping Zachary understand a little more about Thanksgiving last night, and I told him it was an opportunity to think about all the things we appreciate and are grateful for in our lives. I told him I was thankful for having such an amazing little guy for my son. He told me he was thankful for walking sharks.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Buddies

I have just loved watching the relationship between these two developing, I've said before that Z is loving, but he really adores his little sister. He wants to take care of her, and cuddle her, and entertain her. When she "fuzzes" he has to run over and make sure I know. He makes sure I'm not really going to eat Elara's toes and belly, even though I really wish I could! Now that Z's Elary is getting a little older, she just lights up whenever he starts talking to her, and she talks right back.

lower lip...

Oh my goodness this child is sensitive. And tempermental. I suppose Z is a pretty sensitive kid too, but not quite the same way that his sister is. It takes so little for her to flip from perfectly happy smile to big crocodile tears. Elara doesn't like it when things are too busy or loud. I'm getting the impression she'd much prefer to be taken to a nice quiet room for nursing or even playtime. Nothing makes her lower lip stick out faster than a loud noise, and then she'll definitely add her own loud noise to the cacophony. She is still a Momma's girl, and typically just wants to be held and cuddled all the time. She'll sometimes settle for just being able to see me, which isn't always easy when we're in the car and I'm driving!

We're still getting to know your personality Miss E. Hang in there--we'll get you figured out eventually!
